A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 
 
25-245   
IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 
 
June 11, 2024 
 To recognize and honor SCOUT Bags and its founders on the celebration of the business's 20th 
anniversary and their many contributions to the District community	. 
 
WHEREAS, Deb Waterman Johns and Ben Johns founded SCOUT Bags (“SCOUT”) in 
2004 at 1028 33rd Street, N.W., in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C.; 
 WHEREAS, 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of SCOUT, which proudly calls 
Georgetown home to its company headquarters and flagship retail store; 
 WHEREAS, SCOUT reflects the creativity and industriousness of its founders and 
employees who strive to design bags, accessories, and home storage solutions that highlight and 
uplift women and the Washington, D.C., community; 
 WHEREAS, SCOUT supports the D.C. community through charitable projects serving 
children and frontline heroes, including the Secret Santa program for local kids and the 
Community Heroes program	; 
 WHEREAS, the SCOUT community is also dedicated to supporting the GO BO Fund, 
which was founded by Deb Waterman Johns and Ben Johns in honor of their son Bo Johns to 
provide critical support for children and families battling cancer; 
 WHEREAS, the GO BO Fund and the Johns family ha	ve raised more than $750,000 over 
the past 19 years for Georgetown University Hospital’s Department of Pediatric Oncology and 
Hematology’s Emergency Family Relief Fund; and 
 WHEREAS, SCOUT strives to reflect the strength, ingenuity, and tenacity of its dual 
namesakes: the character Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird and Deb’s own loyal dachshund. 
 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this 
resolution may be cited as the “SCOUT Bags 20th Anniversary Celebration Recognition 
Resolution of 2024”.

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors SCOUT for 20 
years of impactful presence in the Georgetown community and for its commitment to cultivating 
a community spirit that fuels ongoing contributions to the greater Washington, D.C. community. 
 
 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
