18-organization for its contributions to social justice and consumers’ rights nationally and in
19-the District of Columbia.

38+WHEREAS, the National Consumers League (“NCL”) was established in 1899 by the 36
39+leaders of the social justice movement and its earliest efforts were successfully directed at 37
40+protecting workers in the workplace, promoting minimum wage legislation, and advocating for 38
41+the creation of the Children's Bureau and federal child labor restrictions; 39

43+WHEREAS, the NCL was instrumental in the historic passage of the 1938 Fair Labor 41
44+Standards Act by Congress that addressed child labor, minimum wage, and industrial homework; 42

21-WHEREAS, the National Consumers League (“NCL”) was established in 1899 by the

34-and workers whose members come from every walk of life from senior citizens to teachers,
35-farmers to steelworkers, and nurses to students;

37-WHEREAS, the NCL has been a pioneering consumer organization at the forefront of
38-securing standards of safety and reliability of goods and services for consumers;

40-WHEREAS, the NCL has presented testimony on numerous worker and consumer-
41-oriented legislation to the Council of the District of Columbia;
