14-To designate November as National Family Caregivers Month in the District of Columbia.

16- WHEREAS, November is designated as National Family Caregivers Month, a time to
17-honor and celebrate the selfless dedication of the millions of family caregivers who provide
18-essential services and support to loved ones in need;
19-
20-WHEREAS, family caregivers are the unsung heroes of our nation, demonstrating
21-unwavering commitment and dedication as they make personal sacrifices to care for family
22-members, friends, and neighbors, often without recognition or compensation;
23-
24-WHEREAS, family caregivers usually are spouses, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles,
25-neighbors, and friends;
26-
27-WHEREAS, more than 50 million Americans provide unpaid care to loved ones, and
28-more than half of them do not even identify themselves as caregivers, despite the vital role they
29-play in supporting the health, safety, and independence of others;

31-WHEREAS, the District has expressed its dedication in supporting grandparent
32-caregivers through T he Grandparent Caregiver Program and The Plaza West-Grandfamily
33-Community Life Program;

35-WHEREAS, National Family Caregivers Month raises awareness of caregiving
36-challenges, educates communities on the importance of supporting caregivers, and highlights
37-resources that provide counseling, training, and temporary relief for caregivers;
38-
39-WHEREAS, this month provides an opportunity to support efforts to ease the burden on
40-caregivers by advocating for programs and policies that provide the support, respect, and relief
41-caregivers deserve, recognizing that no one should have to choose between a paycheck and
42-caring for a loved one.
43- RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
44-resolution may be cited as the “National Family Caregivers Month Recognition Resolution of

50- Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia hereby recognizes November as National
51-Family Caregivers Month and encourages all citizens to recognize, honor, and thank the
52-caregivers in our communities for their invaluable contributions and selfless dedication.
