17 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT 	OF COLUMBIA, That this 
18 resolution may be cited 	as the "Board of Industrial Trades Alex Lemu Confirmation Resolution 
19 of 2023".

21 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia confirms the reappointment 	of:

as a steam and other operating engineer licensed in the District member 	of the Board of 
28 Industrial Trade s, established by D.C. Official Code § 47-2853.06(d), for a term 	to end June 26,

30 Sec. 3. The Council of the District of Columbia shall transmit a copy 	of this resolution, 
31 upon its adoption, to the nominee and to the Office of the Mayor.

  EXPERIENCE 
 
     
Over 24 years of progressive and extensive experience in the following areas	: 
 
• Risk/Loss Control consultant/Consultant Engineer (July 2012 to Present) – Conducting risk 
assessment of residential, commercial, and industrial facilities and provide loss control 
recommendation for insurance underwriting considerations. Investigating claims/losses, 
identifying the root causes, and providing recommendations to mitigate the likelihood of future 
similar incidents. Inspecting facilities for regulatory compliance (Boiler & Pressure vessel). 
Advising insured customers on contingency planning , and relevant occupational safety & health 
standards/requirements.  
• Independent Loss Control consultant 	(Marine & Commercial property/ April 2002 to April 
2005) - Served multiple insurance & other multinational companies in Ethiopia.  	I was licensed as 
a Loss Assessor by The National Bank of Ethiopia, the regulatory authority for Insurance and 
Banking.  
• Marine Engineer – Supervised shipboard machinery spaces (both manned & unmanned); main 
propulsion engines, power generation & distribution equipment, cargo handling equipment, life 
safety equipment ( SOLAS), 	HVAC, boilers (high pressure & low pressure), fire prevention & 
control equipment, oil pollution prevention & monitoring equipment (MARPOL), and multiple 
associated auxiliary equipment & machineries.  
• Stationary Engineer – Conducted hands on operation & maintenance of mechanical & electro-
mechanical equipment in power plants & commercial buildings.

1986 to July 1989)

Alex Lemu 
 
Alex Lemu is a Senior Risk Control Consultant for Travelers Insurance 
and a current member of the Board of Industrial Trades. 
  
Mr. Lemu has over 20 years of progressive and hands on experience in 
engineering. In his current position, he conducts risk assessment of 
residential, commercial, and industrial facilities and quantifies the risk 
associated with equipment breakdown for underwriting 	considerations. 
Through his work, Mr. Lemu strives to properly advise customers on 
relevant occupational safety and health standards. He takes pride in 
contributing to the efforts of protecting the health, safety, economic 
interests, and the quality of life for the District of Columbia residents.  
 
Mr. Lemu has previously worked as a Stationary E	ngineer where he provided training on 
operation and maintenance of machinery spaces of offshore facilities and power plants. Mr. 
Lemu has also served as a Marine E	ngineer, where he supervised the shipboard machinery 
spaces, both manned and unmanned. Mr. Lemu is a commissioned inspector for the boiler and 
pressure vessels by the National Board and an associate safety professional certified by the 
Board of Certified Safety Professionals. He holds a DC 1
st
 Class Steam Engineer’s license. 
 
A Ward 1 resident, Mr. Lemu received a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering from The
