87+Leighton Ku, PhD, MPH, is a professor of health policy and management at the George Washington
88+University (GW). He is a nationally known health policy and health services scholar with more than 25
89+years of experience. He has examined topics such as national and state health reforms, access to care for
90+low-income populations, Medicaid, preventive services, the health care safety net, cost and benefits of
91+health services, and immigrant health. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed
92+articles and 200 policy briefs and other translational reports. He directs the Center for Health Policy
93+Research, a multidisciplinary research center, which includes physicians, attorneys, economists, health
94+management and policy experts and others, with more than 20 faculty and dozens of staff; it has a
95+research portfolio in excess of $25 million. He has been principal investigator for a large number of
96+studies with support from the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
97+Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Commonwealth Fund and Robert Wood Johnson
98+Foundation, and other sources. In the course of his career at GW, the Center on Budget and Policy
99+Priorities and the Urban Institute, he has worked with federal and state executive and legislative agencies,
100+health care organizations, advocates and others in research, technical assistance, strategic advice and
101+advocacy. As a faculty, he has taught research methods and policy analysis at the graduate level for
102+more than 25 years and guided numerous students through dissertations and other research. As a member
103+of his community, he helped establish and guide the District of Columbia’s Health Benefits Exchange

2438+Dr. Leighton Ku is the Director and a Professor at The Center
2439+for Health Policy Research at The George Washington
2440+University (GWU). He is also a current member of the Health
2441+Benefit Exchange Authority Executive Board in the District.
2442+Dr. Ku is a nationally known health policy and health services
2443+scholar with more than 25 years of experience. He has
2444+examined topics such as national and state health reforms;
2445+access to care for low-income populations; Medicaid;
2446+preventive services; the health care safety net; cost and benefits of health services; and immigrant
2447+health. Dr. Ku joined the Milken Institute School of Public Health at The George Washington
2448+University as a full-time faculty member in 2008. However, he has held adjunct positions at
2449+George Washington's School of Public Policy and Public Administration since the early 1990s.
2450+Currently, Dr. Ku directs the multidisciplinary research Center for Health Policy at GWU. The
2451+Center for Health Policy has a research portfolio of more than $25 million, with its members
2452+including physicians, attorneys, economists, and health management experts. Prior to this, Dr. Ku
2453+served as a senior fellow at the Washington based Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. He was
2454+the principal researcher at the Urban Institute and a policy and budget analyst for the federal
2455+nutrition program WIC (Women, Infants, and Children). Here, he focused on improving policies
2456+for low- and moderate-income Americans. In addition, Dr. Ku has been a principal investigator
2457+for many studies from the National Institutes of Health; Centers for Disease Control and
2458+Prevention; Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ; and the Commonwealth Fund and
2459+Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
2460+A Ward 1 resident, Dr. Leighton Ku earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry from Harvard
2461+University, his Master of Science in Nutritional Sciences from the University of California
2462+Berkeley, his Master of Public Health from the University of California Berkeley, and his
