Career Summary: 
 
After more than 35 years managing hotels I am now advocating on behalf of DC youths in foster care and 
in the Juvenile/PINS system.    
    
Advocacy and Non-Profit Experience: 
 
DC Family & Youth Initiative Open Table Program Coordinator 2021 – present  
 
▪ Hired by DCFYI to recruit, train and manage volunteers working with young adults who aged out 
of DC foster care without having been adopted or reunited with family.  The Open Table program 
relies on groups of 6-8 volunteers who meet weekly with one young adult for one year, serving as 
a board of advisors.  The program now has 11 Tables in operation, and has begun recruiting for 
more.  
 
DC City Council Appointee to Citizen Review Panel for the Prevention of 
Child Abuse & Neglect    2018 – present  
 
▪ Appointed to three-year terms by DC City Council to monitor effectiveness of DC Child & 
Family Services Agency 
▪ Active member of the Aging-Out work group, overseeing the CFSA Office of Youth 
Empowerment (OYE) which prepares older youths in foster care for independent living  
 
DC Child & Family Services Agency,  Licensed Foster Parent 2010 – 2021  
 
▪ Certified Trainer, New Generation P.R.I.D.E. training for new foster and adoptive parents 
▪ Co-Chair, Foster Parent Advisory Committee (2017 – 2020) 
▪ Recruited to house teenage boys; Providing a safe home for 12 teens, and permanent 
Guardianship to five.  Finalized permanent adoption of five in June 2021.

▪ Member, Prudent & Responsible Parenting Workgroup

DC Youth Advocate Programs, Inc.,  Part-time Advocate    2017 – August 2018  
 
▪ Provide Mentoring and Advocacy functions for teenage youth in the DC Juvenile/PINS system 
▪ Work with assigned youth on a weekly basis to change habits and behaviors that caused them to 
become incarcerated. 
▪ Work with Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services to help youth transition from detention 
center to group homes with the goal of reunification with family at completion of sentence.      Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), February 2012 – July 2015 
 
▪ Actively Advocated for teenagers in Foster Care and Juvenile Justice System Committed Care 
▪ Primary liaison for teenagers who required additional support with Life Skills, and navigating the 
Child Welfare system 
▪ Successfully Advocated on behalf of teens at all court appearances

Prior to retiring I worked for more than 35 years in all aspects of Hotel Administration, including 
Accounting, Budgets, Cost Controls, Payroll, Human Resources Administration, Training & 
Recruiting, Sales & Marketing, Quality Assurance / Guest Satisfaction, Team Building and 
Guest Relations. I have a proven track record for creating Teams, and have Mentored many 
youths in writing resumes, preparing for a job interview, and conducting themselves in a 
professional manner.
