OBJECTIVE

WORK EXPERIENCE 
 
08/16 – Present Howard University Hospital, Washington, DC 
 
  Trauma Program Manager 
 
In this position I am responsible for developing, organizing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating functions 	of 
the interdisciplinary Trauma Service.  Trauma Services is an operation that unites all aspects of healthcare within the 
acute care setting. In addition to clinical services, I am the liaison to the Executive leadership and Trauma services.  
I direct three distinct teams, Trauma registry, Injury Prevention and Outreach and Trauma Social Work 	and grant 
coordination.  I am also responsible for the organization of services and systems necessary for the multidisciplinary 
approach to the care of the hospital.  I maintain trauma certifications and am certified to direct national curriculums for trauma nurses and physicians.  The position, having been vacant for three years, required a near revamping of the 
service.   
 An essential component of the program is Level 1 State Designation and American College of Surgeons (ACS) 
Verification.  I was able to maintain the District of Columbia State Designation and complete the process for ACS Level 1 Verification, an exclusive number of national hospitals are ACS Level 1 Trauma Center Verified. 
 
Key specified duties include: 
• Creating and maintain policies and procedures pertinent to Trauma Verification 
• Coordinating Trauma Morbidity and Mortality and Trauma Multi-disciplinary meetings 
• Data analysis and submission to the ACS and D.C. DOH 
• Performance Improvement identification and projects 
• Grant Coordination for the Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants (OVSJG) Project Change Grant 
• Coordination of; Advanced Trauma Life Support Course (ATLS) for Surgeons, Trauma Nurse Core Course 
(TNCC) and Trauma Care after Resuscitation Course (TCAR) for nurses, Stop the Bleed Training (STB) 
for the community

injury; establish programs for varying mechanisms of injury including motor vehicle collisions, elderly falls, 
domestic violence, sexual assault, substance abuse related and violent injuries.  Identify stakeholders of Injury 
Prevention and their priorities for prevention and education. P	rovide public awareness of Trauma systems and 
Centers through education and outreach to the community; 	and internal education to health care professionals.  
Oversee and lead teams of educators in the community to disseminate injury prevention education. Provide and 	create budgets for education and prevention of trauma.  Coordinate and organize the operations of large events and 
programs, for example activates surrounding National Trauma Awareness Month and county and state health fairs.  
Educate Emergency and Trauma nurses about clinical trauma procedures and policies. Write and review briefings 
for public meetings.  Coordinates briefings with and meet with high-level officials to discuss community issues like 
gun violence and sexual assault.

Kenyatta Hazlewood 
 
Kenyatta Hazlewood is a trauma program manager at Howard 
University Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center.   
 
As a trauma program manager, Ms. Hazlewood is responsible for 
developing, organizing, and implementing interdisciplinary trauma 
services at Howard University 	Hospital. She has been involved with 
trauma-based intervention for over 10 years and has also previously 
acted as a health mentor at the Latin American Youth Center. 
 
A Ward 1 resident, she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing 
degree as well as a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree from Howard 
University. Ms. Hazlewood has also attained a Master of Public Health 
degree from the George Washington University. She is currently pursuing a Doctor 	of Public
