13-To declare the month of March 2025 as “Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month” in the
14-District of Columbia, and to recognize the important role that people with disabilities play
15-in shaping public policy, advocating for positive change, and enriching all our lives.

17-WHEREAS, people with developmental disabilities are our friends, family, and neighbors
18-in every Ward of the District of Columbia;
19-
20-WHEREAS, we believe that inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in our
21-communities, workplaces, and schools makes us all better off;
22-
23-WHEREAS, government agencies, community organizations, and individual and family
24-leaders work together to create accessible and high-quality education, housing, employment,
25-healthcare, recreational activities, and other community resources for people with developmental
26-disabilities;
27-
28-WHEREAS, the District of Columbia is committed to creating more opportunities for
29-economic self-sufficiency, belonging, and creative innovation by ensuring that residents with
30-disabilities have meaningful employment opportunities;
31-
32-WHEREAS, the 2025 observance of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month
33-celebrates 39 years of advocacy in education, employment, housing, and community support; and
34-
35-WHEREAS, this year’s theme, “ We're Here All Year: Impacting Lives, Influencing
36-Change”, recognizes the important role that people with disabilities play in shaping public
37-policy, advocating for positive change, and enriching all our lives.

39-RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
40-resolution may be cited as the “Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month Recognition
41-Resolution of 2025”.

43-Sec. 2. The Council declares the month of March 2025 as “Developmental Disabilities
44-Awareness Month” and recognizes the important role that people with disabilities play in
45-shaping public policy, advocating for positive change, and enriching all our lives.

47-Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
