557557 Dr. Erica Richards is a board-certified adult psychiatrist. She is
558558 currently the chair and medical director of the Department of Psychiatry
559559 and Behavioral Health at Sibley Memorial Hospital, as well as an
560560 assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral
561561 Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr.
562562 Richards is board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of
563563 Psychiatry and Neurology.
564564 Dr. Richards is a member of the American Society of Clinical
565565 Psychopharmacology and the American Psychiatric Association. She
566566 previously served as the founder and instructor for the Research
567567 Assistant Clinical Training Workshop, a National Institute of Mental Health representative for the
568568 National Institutes of Health Clinical Fellows Committee, and a board member for the National
569569 Institute of Mental Health Fellows Committee.
570570 Dr. Richards has earned the Top Poster Award for Clinical Research by the Society of Biological
571571 Psychiatry; a Travel Award by the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, a Young
572572 Investigator Award by the Career Development Institute for Bipolar Disorder, a New Investigator
573573 Award for the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, as well as several other
574574 distinctions during her years of study.
575575 Dr. Richards has contributed to numerous publications with her research interests on investigating
576576 the role of inflammation in the pathophysiology of mood disorders, identifying potential
577577 biomarkers of depression and treatment response, and elucidating the mechanism of action of
578578 ketamine's antidepressant effects. The National Institutes of Health and the American Heart
579579 Association have both provided funding for her research on the effects of heart attack and stroke
580580 on the brain, specifically on mitochondrial function following ischemia. She has authored over 30
581581 peer-reviewed research publications in the fields of neuroscience and psychiatry research.
582582 A Ward 4 resident, Dr. Richards earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Spelman College
