602602 Dr. Christina Marea is a certified nurse midwife, educator, and
603603 researcher. Her research interests are at the intersection of reproductive
604604 justice, health disparities, and health system opportunities to transform
605605 care and outcomes for structurally marginalized and excluded people.
606606 As a clinical educator, Professor Marea seeks to increase the capacity of
607607 reproductive health care providers to provide excellent care to meet the
608608 specific needs of marginalized and structurally excluded groups through
609609 interventions that aim to improve and maintain high quality health care
610610 services.
611611 Dr. Marea has practiced clinical midwifery practice in a range of
612612 settings including included a birth center working with Latina immigrants, a rural Guatemalan
613613 hospital serving a disaster-affected indigenous community, a federally qualified health center
614614 (FQHC) serving mainly uninsured/ underinsured immigrants (predominantly Latino), tertiary care
615615 hospitals include the care of pregnant and parenting incarcerated teens, and a refugee camp in
616616 South Sudan. Dr. Marea currently practices at Community of Hope (COH) here in Washington
617617 DC, an FQHC serving clients primarily in Wards 5 and 7.
618618 A Ward 5 resident, Dr. Marea earned her Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown
619619 University, her Master of Arts in Conflict Resolution from the University of Bradford, her Master
620620 of Science in Nursing from Yale School of Nursing, and her Doctor of Philosophy from John
