Wilson Building | 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suite 600 | Washington, DC 20004 Dr. Colleen Kepner Dr. Colleen Kepner currently serves as the Medical Director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/Gyn) Hospitalist Program at Sibley Memorial Hospital. She started her career on Capitol Hill as a Legislative Assistant for Health Policy and volunteering at the Whitman Walker Clinic, Dr. Kepner recognized her passion for direct patient care and transitioned from politics to medicine. As a National Health Service Corps scholar, Dr. Kepner began her practice in Colorado working with women on the traditional migrant farm worker stream that travels north from Mexico seasonally. Leading the OB/Gyn team at Clinica Family Health, an FHQC nationally recognized for care outcomes and equity, is also where she expanded her interest in health care leadership with a focus on education and quality improvement projects. One of her most enduring projects was the development of a clinic-private practitioner co -op OB/Gyn Hospitalist program designed to provide immediate access to safe care, as well as nursing support, education and structure for emergency situations for all patients on the unit, including those patients admitted by CNMs and Family Practice physicians. Upon returning to the D.C. area, Dr. Kepner joined the OB/Gyn faculty at Inova Fairfax Hospital. There she continued her focus on expanding access for all patients through outpatient work at the Inova Cares Clinic, as well as honing her clinical skills in a high acuity setting as a Safety Officer for the Women’s Hospital. She also served as a teaching hospitalist with the Inova residency program and the medical school of UVA. At Inova she continued her commitment to quality improvement through several ongoing hospital committee projects including Safe Promotion of Vaginal Birth. In the outpatient setting she focused on multiple quality improvement programs with a special emphasis on clinic processes and patient flow, group care in high- risk pregnancy and colposcopy access for uninsured women in the Northern Virginia region. A Virginia resident, Dr. Kepner earned her Bachelor of Arts in History and P olitical Science from Denison University and her Doctor of Medicine from Drexel University.
