 HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES 

 152nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY 

   

 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 53 

   

 RECOGNIZING MAY 2023 AS "FOSTER CARE MONTH" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE. 

   

   WHEREAS, the   State   of   Delaware   recognizes   that   foster   parents   provide   a   valuable   and   important   support   system to some of Delawares most vulnerable children and their families;   and    WHEREAS,   foster   families   are   an   integral   part   of   the   professional   team   to   protect   and   nurture   children,   and   to strengthen families;   and    WHEREAS,   foster   parents   generously   devote   their   homes,   their   time,   and   their   families   to   give   to   children experiencing   foster   care   love,   support,   and   guidance   to   support   their   emotional,   educational,   and   social   growth;   and    WHEREAS,   in   2022   there   were   approximately   370 foster   homes   in   Delaware   providing   a   stable,   safe   place   for   a child in need;   and    WHEREAS,   there   are   currently   600 youth   who   either   live   away   from   their   homes   or   are   experiencing   foster care;   and    WHEREAS,   children   experiencing   foster   care   are   resilient   and   worthy   of   a   life   full   of   hopes   and   dreams;   and    WHEREAS, foster parents require national, state, and community support to effectively care for children   and  youth who have experienced the trauma of abuse, neglect, or dependency;   and    WHEREAS,   the   month   of   May   provides   an   annual   opportunity   to   highlight   our   foster   families   for   their   dedication, raise   awareness   of   foster   care, and   empower youth   and   foster   families   to   engage   on   this   topic.    NOW, THEREFORE:     BE IT RESOLVED by   the   House of Representatives   of   the   152nd   General   Assembly   of   the   State   of   Delaware,   Senate concurring   therein,   that   the   General   Assembly   hereby   recognizes   May   2023   as   Foster   Care   Month   in   the  State of   Delaware.    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all   Delawareans   are   encouraged   to   join   us   in   commending   foster   families   and youth in care throughout the First State, this month, and throughout the   year.
