 SENATE BILL NO. 140 

   

 AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 15 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY ELECTIONS. 

   

  BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE:   Section 1. Amend 3181, Title 15 of the Delaware Code by making deletions as shown by strike through and insertions as shown by underline as follows:    3181 Primary to be held.    (a) Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, a presidential primary election for major political parties shall be conducted on the  fourth   first  Tuesday in April in the calendar year of a presidential election.   Section 2. This Act expires on May 1, 2024, unless otherwise provided by a subsequent act of the General Assembly.       

 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE: 

 Section 1. Amend 3181, Title 15 of the Delaware Code by making deletions as shown by strike through and insertions as shown by underline as follows: 

  3181 Primary to be held.  

 (a) Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, a presidential primary election for major political parties shall be conducted on the  fourth   first  Tuesday in April in the calendar year of a presidential election. 

 Section 2. This Act expires on May 1, 2024, unless otherwise provided by a subsequent act of the General Assembly.  

   

  SYNOPSIS   This Act would move the 2024 presidential primary election for major political parties from the fourth Tuesday in April to the first Tuesday of April. This Act would resolve any conflict between the presidential primary election and the Jewish holiday of Passover in 2024.    Author: Senator Sokola
