 152nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY 

   

 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 101 

   

 RECOGNIZING OCTOBER 1, 2023, AS "FAFSA DAY" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE. 

   

  WHEREAS, FAFSA stands for  Free Application for Federal Student Aid; and   WHEREAS, FAFSA is the form by which students primarily apply for federal grants, work-study, and loans; and   WHEREAS, colleges use data supplied on FAFSA forms to determine a student's eligibility for federal aid, and many states and colleges use FAFSA data to award their own aid; and   WHEREAS,  each year billions of grants, scholarships, work study, and other financial aid dollars go unclaimed because students and families fail to complete the FAFSA; and   WHEREAS, those unclaimed funds are  disproportionately from those who come from under-resourced,  underrepresented, and underserved families and communities; and   WHEREAS, the high school class of 2021 left an estimated $3.75 billion in Pell Grants on the table by not completing the FAFSA, according to a new National College Attainment Network (NCAN) analysis; and   WHEREAS, the high school class of 2022 left an estimated $3.6 billion in Pell Grants on the table by not completing the FAFSA, according to a new NCAN analysis; and   WHEREAS, the federal government is currently redesigning the FAFSA form and process to make it easier to complete ; those revisions are expected to be finalized in December 2023 .    NOW, THEREFORE:    BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152  nd   General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that October 1, 2023, is recognized as FAFSA Day in the State of Delaware.   BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the General Assembly encourages working to promote the importance of completing the FAFSA by conducting workshops and seminars in the high schools in Delaware.
