Johnson, Morrison, Parker Selby, Romer DELAWARE STATE SENATE 152nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 182 DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF JUNE 10-16, 2024, AS "NATIONAL MEN'S HEALTH WEEK" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE. WHEREAS, National Mens Health Week was established in 1994 to develop a national mens health awareness period as a special campaign to help educate men, boys, and their families about the importance of positive health attitudes and preventative health practices; and WHEREAS, National Mens Health Week is celebrated each June by hundreds of states, cities, localities, public health departments, health care entities, churches, and community organizations throughout the Nation to promote health awareness events focused on mens health; and WHEREAS, despite advances in medical technology and research, men continue to live an average of five years less than women with Native American and African American men having the lowest life expectancy; and WHEREAS, each year, thousands of men die from heart disease; prostate, testicular, colon, and other cancers; diabetes; and other health problems; and WHEREAS, warning signs of these illnesses in their early stages can be detected through preventative health exams and tests, allowing for appropriate forms of treatment that can possibly extended many lives; and WHEREAS, Mental Health America reports 6 million men are affected by depression in the United States every single year; depression and suicide are ranked as a leading cause of death among men, and yet theyre still far less likely to seek mental health treatment than women; and WHEREAS, the purpose of Men's Health Week is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys; and WHEREAS, the Mens Health Week website has been established at and features resources and information about awareness events and activities, including Wear Blue for Mens Health. NOW, THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152 nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the week of June 10-16, 2024, be designated as National Mens Health Week in the State of Delaware. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Delawareans embrace Mens Health Week 2024 as a time to raise awareness, foster open conversations, and empower men to take control of their physical and mental well-being.
