 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 184 

   

 PROCLAIMING JUNE 17TH AS "DELAWARE DAY OF SERVICE". 

   

  WHEREAS, service is a hallmark of the American character and has the unique ability to bring people of all backgrounds, generations, and geographic locations together to meet our nations most pressing challenges; and   WHEREAS, AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors programs provide opportunities for 200,000 Americans annually to build resilient and thriving communities through volunteerism at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based organizations across the country; and   WHEREAS, AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program served 949 children in 2023, totaling 36,691 volunteer hours served; and   WHEREAS, AmeriCorps invested more than $5.1 federal funding to support cost effective community solutions, working hand in hand with local partners to empower individuals to help communities tackle their toughest challenges; and   WHEREAS, this investment in federal funding provided the opportunity for 1,297 members and volunteers to serve in national service in Delaware; and   WHEREAS, Delaware AmeriCorps members and volunteers serve in over 200 locations statewide including schools, food banks, homeless shelters, health clinics, youth centers, veterans facilities, and other nonprofit and faith-based organizations; and   WHEREAS, last year more than 1,200 Americans of all ages and backgrounds united to meet local needs, strengthen communities, and expand opportunity through national service in Delaware; and   WHEREAS, more than 300,000 hours of volunteer service in Delaware are documented by the State Office of Volunteerism each year; and   WHEREAS, volunteers report that volunteering enriches their sense of purpose in life; and   WHEREAS, Delawareans should be celebrated and encouraged to give back to the State; and   WHEREAS, volunteers are crucial to the survival of Delaware non-profit organizations.   NOW, THEREFORE:    BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152  nd   General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House or Representatives concurring therein, that June 17  th   be proclaimed Delaware Day of Service.   BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Delawareans are urged to dedicate their time to a variety of volunteer activities, whether through mentoring, environmental stewardship, or assisting those in need, thereby strengthening the fabric of our communities.
