 152nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY 

   

 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 192 

   

 COMMEMORATING THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DELAWARE CENTER FOR THE INLAND BAYS. 

   

   WHEREAS,  on July 26, 1994, the Inland Bays Watershed Enhancement Act was signed into law and the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays (CIB) was established as one of the 28 National Estuary Programs; and    WHEREAS, for 30 years the Delaware CIB has been working with numerous partners to preserve, protect, and restore the Bays and the surrounding watershed; and    WHEREAS, the Inland Bays watershed is 292 square miles of land that drains to 35 square miles of bays and tidal tributaries; and    WHEREAS, collectively known as an estuary, these 35 miles are where freshwater rivers meet the salty ocean; estuaries support 80% of the worlds fish and shellfish species; and   WHEREAS, the CIBs scientists work with DNREC, environmental groups, and volunteers to collect comprehensive data on the waters of the Inland Bays and the species found in them; and    WHEREAS, the CIB promotes environmental literacy with hands-on educational programs for local students and youth organizations at the James Farm Ecological Preserve in Ocean View; and    WHEREAS, they are keeping nutrients out of the water by restoring shorelines and forested buffers along the Bays; and    WHEREAS, the CIB works with citizens, businesses, and legislators to promote sound public policy that ensures the protection and restoration of water quality and habitat throughout the Inland Bays watershed; and    WHEREAS, they work with landowners, communities, and other nonprofits to plant native trees and shrubs in strategic areas throughout the Inland Bays watershed; and    WHEREAS, the CIB helps communities design and implement new stormwater controls that clean water, prevent flooding, and beautify neighborhoods.    NOW, THEREFORE:     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that we commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays.
