Briggs King, Matthews, Osienski, Ramone, Romer, Shupe, Michael Smith, Yearick DELAWARE STATE SENATE 152nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 46 DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF MAY 8-12, 2023, AS "CHARTER SCHOOLS WEEK" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE. WHEREAS, public charter schools are an integral part of Delawares public school system; and WHEREAS, Delaware public charter schools are instrumental in improving the educational achievements of students attending those schools through innovation and excellence in standards; and WHEREAS, Delaware public charter schools offer Delaware students an opportunity to participate in specialized courses of instruction that challenge all students to reach their potential for academic success; and WHEREAS, the creation of Delaware public charter schools resulted in an increase in the participation of parents and students in the education system; and WHEREAS, there are currently 23 public charter schools in Delaware, educating over 16,000 students; and WHEREAS, enrollment in Delaware public charter schools grew from 17,201 students in the 2021/2022 school year, to 18,269 students in the 2022/2023 school year; and WHEREAS, Delaware public charter schools promote the principles of quality, accountability, choice, and innovation. NOW, THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the week of May 8, 2023, to May 12, 2023, be designated as Charter Schools Week and that Delawares public charter schools are hereby commended for their role in improving Delawares public education system and enhancing their students academic achievements.
