Lockman DELAWARE STATE SENATE 152nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 14 RECOGNIZING MAY 13, 2023, AS "NATIONAL TRAIN DAY IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE. WHEREAS, National Train Day has been annually observed on the Saturday closest to May 10 th , which was the date of the driving of the final, golden spike of the United States first transcontinental railroad in Promontory, Utah, in 1869; and WHEREAS, the advent of train transport approximately 200 years ago forever changed business, exploration, and daily travel; and WHEREAS, National Train Day celebrations were conceptualized by Amtrak to spread awareness about the history of railway networks in the United States; and WHEREAS, encouraging people to use trains as an eco-friendly mode of transport is part of that awareness campaign ; and WHEREAS, trains transport goods and freight across the United States and North America; and WHEREAS, there are a variety of trains, including trams, subway electric trains, specialized tourist trains, and high-speed bullet trains that can travel at high speed, up to 275 miles per hour; and WHEREAS, the State of Delaware has a strong connection to the history of railroads, beginning with the Delaware Railroad and continuing today with Amtrak and CSX; and WHEREAS, the Delaware Railroad stations in both Felton and Wyoming are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the Felton station is a museum; and WHEREAS, trains provide transportation, goods, and services to Delawareans today. NOW, THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware hereby recognizes May 13, 2023, as National Train Day in the State of Delaware. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all Delawareans are encouraged to join us in recognizing the contributions trains and railroad personnel have made to everyday life.
