Moore, Ortega, Ross Levin, Michael Smith, Yearick DELAWARE STATE SENATE 153rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 49 RECOGNIZING THE IMPACT OF THE GIRL SCOUTS OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY AND PROCLAIMING APRIL 10, 2025, AS "GIRL SCOUTS OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY DAY" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE. WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts of the USA was founded in Savannah, Georgia, on March 12, 1912, by Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low to create an inclusive and empowering environment for girls to develop courage, confidence, and character; and WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay (GSCB) was formed in 1962 through the merger of the Wilmington Area Girl Scout Council and the Peninsula Girl Scout Council, and has since played a pivotal role in shaping young girls into future leaders; and WHEREAS, the GSCB currently serves over 4,000 girls and nearly 3,000 adult volunteers across 14 counties in Delaware and the eastern shores of Maryland and Virginia, providing mentorship, leadership development, outdoor education, and STEM programming; and WHEREAS, the mission of the Girl Scouts is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place by providing hands-on learning experiences, outdoor and STEM education, entrepreneurship opportunities, skill building, and lifelong friendships; and WHEREAS, GSCB programming is designed to be accessible and impactful, including traditional troop experiences, individual participation, outdoor education, summer camps, community service, and mentorship opportunities; and WHEREAS, GSCB initiatives such as "Program on the Move" have expanded access to free, local programming, including Virtual Reality and Robotics, enriching the experiences of Girl Scouts across the region; and WHEREAS, research from the Girl Scout Research Institute demonstrates that Girl Scouts are more likely than their non-Girl Scout peers to develop a strong sense of self, display positive values, seek challenges, form healthy relationships, and become community problem-solvers; and WHEREAS, the impact of the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay is evident through their robust community engagement, with 34% of programming dedicated to community initiatives, 48% through "Program on the Move," and 14% through summer camps, reaching over 1,400 girls annually; and WHEREAS, Girl Scouts across the country contribute more than 70 million hours of service annually, demonstrating a commitment to community improvement and civic engagement; and WHEREAS, the State of Delaware wishes to honor and celebrate the outstanding contributions of the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay to the personal and professional development of thousands of girls in our communities. NOW, THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that April 10, 2025, is recognized as "Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Day" in the State of Delaware. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the General Assembly encourages all Delawareans to support and celebrate the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay through participation in their programs, mentorship opportunities, and community engagement.
