2525 Section 1. Paragraphs (i) through (t) of subsection (2) of 12
2626 section 1003.42, Florida Statutes, are redesignated as 13
2727 paragraphs (j) through (u), respectively, and a new paragraph 14
2828 (i) is added to that subsection to read: 15
2929 1003.42 Required instructi on.— 16
3030 (2) Members of the instructional staff of the public 17
3131 schools, subject to the rules of the State Board of Education 18
3232 and the district school board, shall teach efficiently and 19
3333 faithfully, using the books and materials required that meet the 20
3434 highest standards for professionalism and historical accuracy, 21
3535 following the prescribed courses of study, and employing 22
3636 approved methods of instruction, the following: 23
3737 (i) The history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, 24
3838 including the immigration, citizenship , civil rights, identity, 25

5757 The State Board of Education is encouraged to adopt standards 32
5858 and pursue assessment of the requirements of this subsection. A 33
5959 character development program that incorporates the values of 34
6060 the recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor and that is 35
6161 offered as part of a social studies, English Language Arts, or 36
6262 other schoolwide character building and veteran awareness 37
6363 initiative meets the requirements of paragraphs (t)(s) and 38
6464 (u)(t). 39
6565 Section 2. Paragraph (c) of subsection (1) of section 40
6666 1006.148, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: 41
6767 1006.148 Dating violence and abuse prohibited. — 42
6868 (1) Each district school board shall adopt and implement a 43
6969 dating violence and abuse policy. The policy shall: 44
7070 (c) Define dating violence and a buse and provide for a 45
7171 teen dating violence and abuse component in the health education 46
7272 curriculum, according to s. 1003.42(2)(o)2. s. 1003.42(2)(n)2., 47
7373 with emphasis on prevention education. 48

8888 1014.05 School district notifications on parental rights. — 51
8989 (1) Each district school board shall, in consultation with 52
9090 parents, teachers, and administrators, develop and adopt a 53
9191 policy to promote parental involvement in the public school 54
9292 system. Such policy must include: 55
9393 (d) Procedures, pursuant to s. 1002.20(3)(d), for a parent 56
9494 to withdraw his or her minor child from any portion of the 57
9595 school district's comprehensive health edu cation required under 58
9696 s. 1003.42(2)(o) s. 1003.42(2)(n) that relates to sex education 59
9797 or instruction in acquired immune deficiency syndrome education 60
9898 or any instruction regarding sexuality if the parent provides a 61
9999 written objection to his or her minor chil d's participation. 62
100100 Such procedures must provide for a parent to be notified in 63
101101 advance of such course content so that he or she may withdraw 64
102102 his or her minor child from those portions of the course. 65
103103 (f) Procedures for a parent to learn about parental rig hts 66
104104 and responsibilities under general law, including all of the 67

106106 1. Pursuant to s. 1002.20(3)(d), the right to opt his or 69

110110 acquired immune deficiency syndrome education or any instruction 73
