2424 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 11

2626 Section 1. Paragraph (u) is added to subsection (2) of 13
2727 section 1003.42, Florida Statutes, to read: 14
2828 1003.42 Required instruction. — 15
2929 (2) Members of the instructional staff of the public 16
3030 schools, subject to the rules of the State Board of Education 17
3131 and the district school board, shall teach efficiently and 18
3232 faithfully, using the books and materials required that meet the 19
3333 highest standards for professionalism and historical accuracy, 20
3434 following the prescribed courses of study, and em ploying 21
3535 approved methods of instruction, the following: 22
3636 (u) Social media literacy. For purposes of this paragraph, 23
3737 "social media" means a form of interactive electronic 24
3838 communication through an Internet website or application by 25

5959 The State Board of Education is encouraged to adopt standards 34
6060 and pursue assessment of the requirements of this subsection. A 35
6161 character development program that incorporates the values of 36
6262 the recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor and that is 37
6363 offered as part of a social studies, English Language Arts, or 38
6464 other schoolwide character building and veteran awareness 39
6565 initiative meets the requirements of paragraphs (s) and (t). 40
6666 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2022. 41
