22	22		health care providers to submit certain information to 9
23	23		the department for inclusion in the database; 10
24	24		prohibiting the database from including any personal 11
25	25		identifying information; requiring the department to 12
26	26		develop and include information related to fibroids in 13
27	27		certain literature currently made available to the 14
28	28		public for a specified purpose; providing an 15
29	29		appropriation and authorizing a position; providing an 16

32	32		Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 19

34	34		Section 1. Section 381.9312, Florida Statutes, is created 21
35	35		to read: 22
36	36		381.9312 Uterine fibroid research database; education and 23
37	37		public awareness.— 24
38	38		(1) DEFINITIONS.—As used in this section, the term: 25

51	51		(a) "Department" means the Department of Health. 26
52	52		(b) "Health care provider" means a physician or physician 27
53	53		assistant licensed und er chapter 458 or chapter 459 or an 28
54	54		advanced practice registered nurse licensed under chapter 464. 29
55	55		(c) "Uterine fibroid" means a noncancerous growth of the 30
56	56		uterus that often appears during a woman's childbearing years. 31
57	57		(2) UTERINE FIBROID RESEARCH DATA BASE.— 32
58	58		(a) The department shall develop and maintain an 33
59	59		electronic database consisting of information related to uterine 34
60	60		fibroids. The purpose of the database is to encourage research 35
61	61		relating to the diagnosis and treatment of uterine fibroids and 36
62	62		to ensure that women are provided with the relevant information 37
63	63		and health care necessary to prevent and treat uterine fibroids. 38
64	64		The database must include, but need not be limited to, all of 39
65	65		the following information: 40
66	66		1. Incidence and prevalence of women diagn osed with 41
67	67		uterine fibroids in the state. 42
68	68		2. Demographic attributes of women diagnosed with uterine 43
69	69		fibroids in the state. 44
70	70		3. Treatments and procedures for uterine fibroids used by 45
71	71		health care providers in the state. 46
72	72		(b) A health care provider who dia gnoses or treats a woman 47
73	73		with uterine fibroids shall submit information relating to such 48
74	74		diagnosis or treatment to the department in a form and manner 49
75	75		prescribed by department rule for inclusion in the database. 50

88	88		Such information may be submitted along with any reports or 51
89	89		other information that the health care provider is required to 52
90	90		submit to the department pursuant to state law. 53
91	91		(c) The database may not include any personal identifying 54
92	92		information of women diagnosed with or treated for uterine 55
93	93		fibroids. 56
94	94		(3) UTERINE FIBROID EDUCATION OUTREACH AND PUBLIC 57
95	95		AWARENESS.—The department shall develop and include information 58
96	96		related to uterine fibroids in its women's health care 59
97	97		educational materials currently made available to the public. 60
98	98		The information must in clude, but need not be limited to, the 61
99	99		following: 62
100	100		(a) Possible risk factors for developing uterine fibroids. 63
101	101		(b) Range of available treatment options that are 64
102	102		considered alternatives to hysterectomy. 65
103	103		Section 2. For the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the su ms of 66
104	104		$121,852 in recurring funds from the General Revenue Fund and 67
105	105		$681,048 in nonrecurring funds from the General Revenue Fund are 68
106	106		appropriated to the Department of Health and one full -time 69
107	107		equivalent position with associated salary rate of 55,212 is 70
108	108		authorized for the purpose of implementing this act. 71
109	109		Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2022. 72
