53 | 53 | | (b) Subject to appropriation, the department shall 28 |

54 | 54 | | implement a pilot program to provide funds to food recovery 29 |

55 | 55 | | entities to expand capabilities for extending the shelf life of 30 |

56 | 56 | | fresh produce, including, but not limited to, labor, purchasing, 31 |
---|
57 | 57 | | packaging, storage, transportation, and distribution. 32 |
---|
58 | 58 | | (c) To qualify for fundi ng under this section, the food 33 |
---|
59 | 59 | | recovery entity must apply to the department and provide 34 |
---|
60 | 60 | | documentation that it receives fresh fruits and vegetables from 35 |
---|
61 | 61 | | an agricultural company, has food processing equipment and 36 |
---|
62 | 62 | | production capabilities, and operates a job training program. 37 |
---|
63 | 63 | | (d) The department shall submit a report on the pilot 38 |
---|
64 | 64 | | program, including recommendations for legislation, to the 39 |
---|
65 | 65 | | Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the 40 |
---|
66 | 66 | | House of Representatives by January 1, 2025. 41 |
---|
67 | 67 | | (e) The department shall adopt rules to implement this 42 |
---|
68 | 68 | | subsection. 43 |
---|
69 | 69 | | Section 2. For the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the sum of $2 44 |

70 | 70 | | million in nonrecurring funds is appropriated from the General 45 |

71 | 71 | | Revenue Fund to the Department of Agriculture and Consumer 46 |
