15	15	A concurrent resolution ratifying the proposed 2
16	16	amendment to the Constitution of the United States 3
17	17	relating to equal rights for men and women. 4

19	19	WHEREAS, during the Second Session of the 92nd Congress of 6
20	20	the United States of America, by a constitutional majority of 7
21	21	two-thirds, both houses approved the Equal Rights Amendment, and 8
22	22	WHEREAS, on March 22, 1972, this proposed amendment to the 9
23	23	Constitution of the United States was sent to the states for 10
24	24	ratification, and 11
25	25	WHEREAS, Article V of the United States Constitution 12
26	26	authorizes the Legislature of Florida to ratify proposed 13
27	27	amendments to the Constitution of the United States, and 14
28	28	WHEREAS, the provisions of the 1972 Equal Rights Amendment 15
29	29	contained a 7-year period for ratification, a deadline the 16
30	30	United States Congress later extended to 1982 after 35 states 17
31	31	had ratified the amendment, and 18
32	32	WHEREAS, on March 17, 2021, the United States House of 19
33	33	Representatives passed House Joint Resolution 17 to 20
34	34	retroactively eliminate the ratification deadline from the 21
35	35	amendment, and a companion bill, Senate Joint Resolution 1, has 22
36	36	been introduced in the United States Senate, and 23
37	37	WHEREAS, constitutional equality for men and women 24
38	38	continues to be timely in the United States and worldwide, and 25

54	54	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of 29
55	55	Florida, the Senate C oncurring: 30

57	57	That the proposed amendment to the Constitution of the 32
58	58	United States set forth below is ratified by the Legislature of 33
59	59	the State of Florida. 34
60	60	"ARTICLE ____ 35
61	61	"SECTION 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be 36
62	62	denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on 37
63	63	account of sex. 38
64	64	"SECTION 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, 39
65	65	by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article. 40
66	66	"SECTION 3. This amendment shall take effect two years 41
67	67	after the date of ratification." 42

70	70	foregoing preamble and resolution be immediately forwarded by 45
