A resolution designating April 23, 2022, as "Trails 2
Day" in Florida. 3

WHEREAS, Florida's natural environment provides abundant 5
opportunities for recreational activities, and 6
WHEREAS, the State of Florida created the Florida Greenways 7
and Trails Program within the Department of Environmental 8
Protection and created the Shared -Use Nonmotorized Trail Program 9
within the Department of Transportation to provide natur e-based 10
recreational opportunities for the public, and 11
WHEREAS, there are more than 1,300 existing recreational 12
trails located across the state through which Floridians can 13
engage in exercise while also enjoying the state's scenery, and 14
WHEREAS, hundreds of miles of unused Florida railways have 15
been converted to trails through the efforts of groups such as 16
the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, and 17
WHEREAS, Florida is a recognized leader in creating award -18
winning greenways and trails for the benefit and enjoym ent of 19
its residents and visitors from around the world, NOW, 20
