16	16	WHEREAS, National Minority Health Month is a month -long 5
17	17	national initiative to advance health equity across the country 6
18	18	on behalf of all racial and ethnic minorities, and 7
19	19	WHEREAS, National Minority Health Month began with Booker 8
20	20	T. Washington advocating for a National Negro Health Week in 9
21	21	1915, and 10
22	22	WHEREAS, in 2002, the United States Congress said that a 11
23	23	National Minority Health and Health Disparities Month, "should 12
24	24	be established to promote educational efforts on the health 13
25	25	problems facing minorities and other health disparity 14
26	26	populations," and 15
27	27	WHEREAS, as an example of such health problems and 16
28	28	disparities, according to a report by the National Center for 17
29	29	Health Statistics, Black women are dying two -and-a-half times 18
30	30	more often than white women due to maternal causes, and 19
31	31	WHEREAS, a study published in 2019 by a researcher at 20
32	32	George Washington University School of Medicine and Health 21
33	33	Sciences revealed that Black and Hispanic patients were less 22
34	34	likely than white patients to receive medication for acute pain, 23
35	35	with the meta-analysis performed in the research demon strating 24 

47	47	administration of pain management medication, and 26
48	48	WHEREAS, according to the Centers for Disease Control and 27
49	49	Prevention, certain vulnerable populations, such as racial and 28
50	50	ethnic minority groups , are at higher risk of getting sick and 29
51	51	dying of COVID-19, and 30
52	52	WHEREAS, historical inequities in treatment and events like 31
53	53	the Tuskegee Syphilis Study may explain why some from racial and 32
54	54	ethnic minority groups do not trust healthcare systems and may 33
55	55	therefore be more hesitant to get a COVID -19 vaccine, and 34
56	56	WHEREAS, the theme of the 202 2 National Minority Health 35
57	57	Month is "Give Your Community a Boost ," NOW, THEREFORE, 36
