| 28 | 28 | | (1) As used in this section, the term: 15 |

| 29 | 29 | | (a) "Smoke evacuation system" means equipment that 16 |

| 30 | 30 | | effectively captures, filters , and eliminates surgical smoke at 17 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the site of origin before the smoke makes contact with the eyes 18 |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | or respiratory tract of occupants in the room. 19 |

| 33 | 33 | | (b) "Surgical smoke" means the gaseous byproduct produced 20 |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | by energy-generating devices such as lasers and el ectrosurgical 21 |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | devices. The term includes, but is not limited to, surgical 22 |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | plume, smoke plume, bio -aerosols, laser-generated airborne 23 |

| 37 | 37 | | contaminants, and lung -damaging dust. 24 |
