Water Control District to the Acme Improvement 7
District; providing purposes; providing an effective 8

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the S tate of Florida: 11

Section 1. Extension of Acme Improvement District 13
boundaries.—The lands commonly known as the Wellington Preserve 14
at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Everglades Habitat and the 15
Moncada Property more particularly described below, shall be 16
added to the territorial limits of the Acme Improvement 17
District, a dependent district of the Village of Wellington, 18
existing in Palm Beach County, as codified under chapter 2003 -19
330, Laws of Florida, and shall be removed from the territorial 20
limits of the Pine Tree Water Control District, a corporation 21
under the drainage laws of the state, existing in Palm Beach 22
County, as codified under chapter 2009 -270, Laws of Florida. The 23
purpose of the transfer of property from the Pine Tree Water 24
Control District to the Acme Improvement District is to 25

facilitate the incorporation of the Moncada Property into the 26
existing Wellington Preserve at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas 27
Everglades Habitat, and to preserve public resources by allowing 28
Wellington to direct its financi al resources to developing, 29
preserving, and maintaining these natural areas for the benefit 30
of the public. In addition to the already existing 365 -acre 31
Wellington Preserve that provides an environmental ecosystem, 32
flood protection, and recreational opportu nities to Palm Beach 33
County residents, the addition of the Moncada property to the 34
Wellington Preserve will add an additional 45 acres of 35
landscaping, planting, hiking trails, equestrian trails, a 36
wildlife observation area, picnic structures, and an educat ional 37
kiosk; and will protect the natural characteristics of the site 38
and preserve its habitat for numerous listed species that live 39
in the area. The Wellington Preserve at the Marjory Stoneman 40
Douglas Everglades Habitat and the Moncada Property are more 41
particularly described as follows: 42
