A resolution honoring the servicemembers of the United 2
States and of the Republic of Vietnam on the occasion 3
of the 50th anniversary of the departure of United 4
States combat troops from Vietnam. 5

WHEREAS, members of the United States Armed Forces and the 7
Armed Forces of the Republic of Vietnam fought in and sacrificed 8
during the Vietnam War in support of South Vietnam against North 9
Vietnam, and 10
WHEREAS, these servicemembers fought bravely together in 11
the Vietnam War, and 12
WHEREAS, the Armed Forces of the United States suffered 13
more than 58,000 fatal casualties, and nearly 1,600 14
servicemembers are still listed as Missing In Action, and 15
WHEREAS, an estimated 1,950 servicemembers from Florida 16
gave their lives in the Vietnam War, and 17
WHEREAS, over 500,000 Vietnam War veterans reside in 18
Florida, making it the second largest population of Vietnam War 19
veterans in the nation, and 20
WHEREAS, Florida has over 64,000 residen ts of Vietnamese 21
descent, and 22
WHEREAS, Vietnamese-American communities have dedicated 23
Vietnam War memorials in the United States to the brave 24
servicemembers who fought and died in the war, and 25

WHEREAS, 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of Operation 26
Homecoming, which repatriated 591 American Prisoners of War from 27
North Vietnam following the Paris Peace Accords, and 28
WHEREAS, on March 29, 1973, the United States Military 29
Assistance Command, Vietnam was disestablished and the last 30
United States combat troops d eparted Vietnam, and 31
WHEREAS, according to the United States of America Vietnam 32
War Commemoration organization, there will 50 events around the 33
state commemorating the end of the Vietnam War and honoring 34
veterans of that war in March 2023, and 35
WHEREAS, the Governor has recognized March 29, 2023, as 36
Vietnam War Veterans Day in Florida, NOW, THEREFORE, 37

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of 39

That the House of Representatives recognizes and honors all 42
the servicemembers of the United States and of the Republic of 43
Vietnam who fought and sacrificed during the Vietnam War on the 44
occasion of the 50th anniversary of the departure of United 45
States combat troops from Vietnam. 46
