2323 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 10

2525 Section 1. Paragraph (c) of subsection (3) of section 12
2626 1003.52, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: 13
2727 1003.52 Educational services in Department of Juvenile 14
2828 Justice programs.— 15
2929 (3) The district school board of the county in which the 16
3030 juvenile justice education prevention, day treatment, 17
3131 residential, or detention program is located shall provide or 18
3232 contract for appropriate educational assessments and an 19
3333 appropriate program of instruction and special education 20
3434 services. 21
3535 (c) The district school board shall make p rovisions for 22
3636 each student to participate in basic, CAPE, and exceptional 23
3737 student programs as appropriate. Students served in Department 24
3838 of Juvenile Justice education programs shall have access to the 25

5151 appropriate courses and instruction to prepare them for the high 26
5252 school equivalency examination. Students participating in high 27
5353 school equivalency examination preparation programs shall be 28
5454 funded at the basic program cost factor for Department of 29
5555 Juvenile Justice programs in the Florida Education Finance 30
5656 Program. Each program shall be conducted according to applicable 31
5757 law providing for the operation of public schools and rules of 32
5858 the State Board of Education. School districts shall provide the 33
5959 high school equivalency examination exit option for all juvenile 34
6060 justice education programs and provide each student who is 16 35
6161 years of age or older with the opportunity to take the high 36
6262 school equivalency examination at least once a year at no cost 37
6363 to the student. 38
6464 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2024. 39
