A bill to be entitled 1 
An act relating to the Florida School for Competitive 2 
Academics; amending s. 1002.351, F.S.; authorizing the 3 
school's board of trustees to change the name of the 4 
school; providing an effective date. 5

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 7 
 8 
 Section 1.  Paragraph (e) of subsection (3) of section 9 
1002.351, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: 10 
 1002.351  The Florida School for Competitive Academics. — 11 
 (3)  BOARD OF TRUSTEES. — 12 
 (e)  The board of trustees has the full power and authority 13 
to: 14 
 1.  Adopt rules pursuant to ss. 120.536(1) and 120.54 to 15 
implement provisions of law relating to ope ration of the Florida 16 
School for Competitive Academics. Such rules must be submitted 17 
to the State Board of Education for approval or disapproval. 18 
After a rule is approved by the State Board of Education, the 19 
rule must be filed immediately with the Departme nt of State. The 20 
board of trustees shall act at all times in conjunction with the 21 
rules of the State Board of Education. 22 
 2.  Appoint a principal, administrators, teachers, and 23 
other employees. 24 
 3.  Remove principals, administrators, teachers, and other 25

employees at the board's discretion. 26 
 4.  Determine eligibility of students and procedures for 27 
admission. 28 
 5.  Provide for the proper keeping of accounts and records 29 
and for budgeting of funds. 30 
 6.  Receive gifts, donations, and bequests of money or 31 
property, real or personal, tangible or intangible, from any 32 
person, firm, corporation, or other legal entity for the use and 33 
benefit of the school. 34 
 7.  Recommend to the Legislature for the school to become a 35 
residential public school. 36 
 8.  Do and perform every o ther matter or thing requisite to 37 
the proper management, maintenance, support, and control of the 38 
school at the highest efficiency economically possible. 39 
 9.  Change the name of the school. 40 
 Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2024. 41
