22 | 22 | | Section 1. Subsection (1) and paragraph (c) of subsection 9 |

23 | 23 | | (4) of section 196.082, Florida Statutes, are amended to read: 10 |

24 | 24 | | 196.082 Discounts for disabled vete rans; surviving spouse 11 |

26 | 26 | | (1) Each veteran who is age 65 or older and is partially 13 |
---|
27 | 27 | | or totally permanently disabled shall receive a discount from 14 |
---|
28 | 28 | | the amount of the ad valorem tax otherwise owed on homestead 15 |
---|
29 | 29 | | property that the veteran owns and resi des in if: 16 |
---|
30 | 30 | | (a) The disability was combat -related; and 17 |
---|
31 | 31 | | (b) The veteran was honorably discharged upon separation 18 |
---|
32 | 32 | | from military service ; and 19 |
---|
33 | 33 | | (c) The veteran has been awarded the Purple Heart medal . 20 |
---|
34 | 34 | | (4) To qualify for the discount granted under this 21 |
---|
35 | 35 | | section, an applicant must submit to the county property 22 |
---|
36 | 36 | | appraiser by March 1: 23 |

37 | 37 | | (c) Proof that the veteran has been awarded the Purple 24 |

61 | 61 | | date of the amendment to the State Constitution proposed by HJR 36 |

62 | 62 | | 1373, or a similar joint resolution having substantially the 37 |
---|
63 | 63 | | same specific intent and purpose, if such amendment is approved 38 |
---|
64 | 64 | | at the next general election or at an earlier special election 39 |
---|
65 | 65 | | specifically authorized by law for that purpose. 40 |
