HR 8061 2024 hr8061-00 Page 1 of 2 F L O R I D A H O U S E O F R E P R E S E N T A T I V E S House Resolution 1 A resolution designating November 2024 as "Pancreatic 2 Cancer Awareness Month" in Florida. 3 4 WHEREAS, of all major cancers, pancreatic cancer has the 5 highest mortality rate and is currently the third leading cause 6 of cancer-related death in the United States, and 7 WHEREAS, organizations across the country host events and 8 display purple ribbons in observance of National Pancreatic 9 Cancer Awareness Month, uniting persons from many different 10 backgrounds and cultures to further the goal of raising 11 awareness of those suffering from pancreatic cancer, informing 12 the public about warning signs of the disease, and advocating 13 for increased funding for continued research i n the fight 14 against pancreatic cancer, and 15 WHEREAS, in 2023, approximately 64,050 people were 16 diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States, and of 17 these, 4,800 were Florida residents, and 18 WHEREAS, pancreatic cancer diagnoses are rising faster 19 among younger women, especially Black women, than among men of 20 the same age, and 21 WHEREAS, those whose lives have been impacted by pancreatic 22 cancer, including patients actively battling the disease, 23 pancreatic cancer survivors, persons who have died of panc reatic 24 cancer, their families and loved ones, and the many clinicians, 25 HR 8061 2024 hr8061-00 Page 2 of 2 F L O R I D A H O U S E O F R E P R E S E N T A T I V E S health care providers, researchers, and caregivers who are 26 dedicated to serving and improving the lives of those with 27 pancreatic cancer are recognized for their strength, 28 perseverance, and dedication, NOW, THEREFORE, 29 30 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of 31 Florida: 32 33 That November 2024 is designated as "Pancreatic Cancer 34 Awareness Month" in the State of Florida. 35
