A bill to be entitled 1 
An act relating to the Florida Bright Futures 2 
Scholarship Program; amending s. 1009.531, F.S.; 3 
revising eligibility requirements for a student who 4 
earns a high school diploma from a non -Florida school 5 
under certain circumstances; providing an effective 6 
date. 7

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 9 
 10 
 Section 1.  Paragraph (b) of subsection (1) of section 11 
1009.531, Florida Statutes, is am ended to read: 12 
 1009.531  Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program; 13 
student eligibility requirements for initial awards. — 14 
 (1)  In order to be eligible for an initial award from any 15 
of the scholarships under the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship 16 
Program, a student must: 17 
 (b)  Earn a standard Florida high school diploma pursuant 18 
to s. 1002.3105(5), s. 1003.4281, or s. 1003.4282 or a high 19 
school equivalency diploma pursuant to s. 1003.435 unless: 20 
 1.  The student completes a home education program 21 
according to s. 1002.41; 22 
 2.  The student earns a high school diploma from a non -23 
Florida school while living with a parent or guardian who is on , 24 
or, within 12 months before the student's high school 25

graduation, has retired from, military or public service 26 
assignment away from Florida; or 27 
 3.  The student earns a high school diploma from a Florida 28 
private school operating pursuant to s. 1002.42. 29 
 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2025. 30
