15	15	A concurrent resolution ratifying the proposed 2
16	16	amendment to the United States Constitution relating 3
17	17	to equal rights for men and women. 4

19	19	WHEREAS, during the Second Session of the 92nd Congress of 6
20	20	the United States of America, by a constitutional majority of 7
21	21	two-thirds, both houses of Congress approved the Equal Rights 8
22	22	Amendment, and 9
23	23	WHEREAS, on March 22, 1972, this proposed amendment to the 10
24	24	United States Constitution was sent to the states for 11
25	25	ratification, and 12
26	26	WHEREAS, Article V of the United States Constitution 13
27	27	authorizes the Florida Legislature to ratify proposed amendments 14
28	28	to the United States Constitution, and 15
29	29	WHEREAS, the provisions of the 1 972 Equal Rights Amendment 16
30	30	contained a 7-year period for ratification, a deadline the 17
31	31	United States Congress later extended to 1982 after 35 states 18
32	32	had ratified the amendment, and 19
33	33	WHEREAS, in 2021, the United States House of 20
34	34	Representatives passed a measu re to retroactively eliminate the 21
35	35	ratification deadline from the amendment, and the United States 22
36	36	Senate introduced a similar companion measure, and 23
37	37	WHEREAS, constitutional equality for men and women 24
38	38	continues to be timely in the United States and worldwi de, and 25

54	54	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of 29
55	55	Florida, the Senate Concurring: 30

57	57	That the proposed amendment to the Constitution of the 32
58	58	United States set forth below is ratified by the Legislature of 33
59	59	the State of Florida. 34
60	60	"ARTICLE ____ 35
61	61	SECTION 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be 36
62	62	denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on 37
63	63	account of sex. 38
64	64	SECTION 2. The Cong ress shall have the power to enforce, 39
65	65	by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article. 40
66	66	SECTION 3. This amendment shall take effect two years 41
67	67	after the date of ratification." 42
68	68	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of the 43
69	69	foregoing preamble and resolution be immediately forwarded by 44
70	70	the Secretary of State of the State of Florida, under the Great 45
71	71	Seal of this state, to the President of the United States, the 46
72	72	Secretary of State of the United States, the President of the 47
73	73	Senate of the United States, the Speaker of the House of 48
74	74	Representatives of the United States, and the Administrator of 49
75	75	the General Services Administration of the United States. 50
