HB 4037 2025 CODING: Words stricken are deletions; words underlined are additions. hb4037-00 Page 1 of 2 F L O R I D A H O U S E O F R E P R E S E N T A T I V E S A bill to be entitled 1 An act relating to the Downtown Development Authority 2 of the City of Fort Lauderdale, Broward County; 3 amending chapter 2005 -346, Laws of Florida; removing 4 the expiration date of the Downton Development 5 Authority of the City of Fort Lauderdale; providing 6 for transfer of assets upon dissolution pursuant to 7 law; providing an effective date. 8 9 WHEREAS, the Downtown Development Authority of the City of 10 Fort Lauderdale (DDA) was created by special act of the 11 Legislature in 1965, and 12 WHEREAS, the DDA has been the driving force in the growth 13 and progress of Downtown Fort Lauderdale for the past five 14 decades, and 15 WHEREAS, the DDA has dedicated land and resources for 16 public amenities, including the Broward Center for the 17 Performing Arts, the Downtown Library, the Museum of Discovery 18 and Science, and Huizenga Park, among many others, and 19 WHEREAS, the DDA has been active in providing input and 20 solutions for important o ngoing issues such as transportation, 21 affordable housing, community safety, and parks and public space 22 improvements, and 23 HB 4037 2025 CODING: Words stricken are deletions; words underlined are additions. hb4037-00 Page 2 of 2 F L O R I D A H O U S E O F R E P R E S E N T A T I V E S WHEREAS, the DDA is an important vehicle for representation 24 and participation of the commercial property owners in Downtown 25 Fort Lauderdale, and 26 WHEREAS, the Legislature has reviewed downtown development 27 authorities and special districts on a periodic basis so that a 28 separate termination date is not needed given the important role 29 the DDA occupies in the community, NOW, THEREFORE, 30 31 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 32 33 Section 1. Section 15 of section 3 of chapter 2005 -346, 34 Laws of Florida, is amended to read: 35 Section 15. Upon the dissolution of the authority pursuant 36 to law On December 31, 2030 , this law shall expire and all 37 assets of the authority shall on or before the dissolution that 38 date be transferred by the authority to the city. Any assets 39 remaining in the hands of the authority on the dissolution date 40 December 31, 2030, shall automatically devolve upon and become 41 the property of the city. In the event there shall be any 42 indebtedness outstanding against the authority, the city may 43 continue to levy whatever portion shall be necessary of the tax 44 authorized by this law to retire such indebtedness. 45 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. 46
