2020 WHEREAS, as educators, authors, community leaders, 9
2121 activists, athletes, artists, musician s, and politicians, 10
2222 Caribbean Americans have made their mark in every facet of our 11
2323 society and have contributed to the betterment and diversity of 12
2424 our state and nation, and 13
2525 WHEREAS, counted among many famous sons and daughters of 14
2626 the Caribbean are civil r ights activist W.E.B. Du Bois; United 15
2727 States Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton; United 16
2828 States Secretary of State Colin Powell; United States 17
2929 Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm; Oscar -nominated actress Cicely 18
3030 Tyson; Oscar-winning actor Sidney Poitier who was born in Miami; 19
3131 author, poet, and civil rights activist James Weldon Johnson; 20
3232 musician, actor, and social activist Harry Belafonte; Haitian 21
