1111 Commending Alvin Dollar; and for other purposes.

1313 WHEREAS, Alvin Dollar, a third-generation Atlanta native, has steadfastly represented his2
1414 beloved city with unwavering pride and commitment throughout his life; and3
1515 WHEREAS, born in 1948 to Adel and Lillie Dollar as one of eight siblings, Alvin proudly4
1616 carries the moniker of a "Grady Baby"; and5
1717 WHEREAS, Alvin's dedication to improving the quality of life across metro Atlanta is best6
1818 exemplified by his tireless advocacy for poverty rights, mental health, and economic7
1919 development; and8
2020 WHEREAS, he gained valuable insights and wisdom through his early social work with9
2121 CETA, the Butler St. YMCA, and the Downtown Labor Center, which led him to develop10
2222 programs that provided comprehensive support such as childcare, job training, and substance11
2323 abuse counseling; and12
2424 WHEREAS, he worked with the first coalition of Homeless Advocates responsible for the13
2525 creation of Atlanta's Task Force for the Homeless and served as a founding board member14

2828 of Roots Adoption Agency, which was dedicated to finding homes for African American

3131 WHEREAS, his involvement in the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Task Force, Grady Special17
3232 Infant Unit, reflects his commitment to ensuring the well-being of Atlanta's youth and18
3333 combating high infant mortality rates; and19
3434 WHEREAS, Alvin's enduring impact extends to his tenure as director at the Dunbar20
3535 Neighborhood Center, which he transformed into a vibrant hub for learning, laughter, and21
3636 growth, earning him the esteemed title of Georgia Hero in 1995; and22
3737 WHEREAS, shortly thereafter in 1996, when Atlanta welcomed the world, he shared his23
3838 story and ran with the Olympic torch across the streets of his hometown; and24
3939 WHEREAS, ever ready to be a part of societal change, Alvin has actively participated in25
4040 various political campaigns over the years and is honored to have represented Georgia at the26
4141 1988 Democratic Convention; and27
4242 WHEREAS, since stepping onto the Board of the ArtsXchange in 2019, he has continued to28
4343 share his stories, build bridges in the community, and dedicate his time and energy toward29
4444 supporting and promoting the organization; and30
4545 WHEREAS, Alvin's additional extensive service on numerous boards and advisory councils,31
4646 including his role as an active member of the National Association of Black Social Workers,32
4747 stands as testament to his enduring commitment to effecting positive change; and33

5050 WHEREAS, his legacy was further cemented by the announcement of a scholarship in his

5252 name for emerging practitioners at the 2023 National Association of Black Social Workers,35
5353 ensuring that his work will continue to inspire and guide future generations; and36
5454 WHEREAS, by the example Alvin has made of his life, he makes this world a better place37
5555 in which to live, and it is only fitting and proper that he be appropriately honored.38
5656 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that39
5757 the members of this body commend Alvin Dollar for his unselfish, dedicated, and loving40
5858 service to the members of his community and state as well as extend their most sincere best41
5959 wishes for continued health and happiness.42
6060 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized43
6161 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Alvin44
