A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Herman Lee Riley; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
with the passing of Herman Lee Riley on November 2, 2023; and3
WHEREAS, Herman Lee Riley was born on April 27, 1934, in Garden City, Georgia, a4
beloved son of Charlie and Daisy Mae Riley; and5
WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United6
States Air Force, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans for 27 years,7
retiring as Chief Master Sergeant; and8
WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Herman Lee Riley was an active member of9
the United House of Prayer for All People Church; and10
WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his wife, Diana, and was blessed with11
three remarkable children, Janice E. Preister, Herman Lee Riley Jr., and Patrick L. Riley; two12
wonderful grandsons, Herman Lee Riley III and Brian Priester; and one outstanding13
great-granddaughter, Jaylynn Priester; and14

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern

for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his16
family and friends were admired by others; and17
WHEREAS, he possessed the vast wisdom which only comes through experience and the18
strength of character which is achieved by overcoming the many challenges of life; and19
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Herman Lee Riley will long be20
remembered for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who21
had the great fortune of knowing him.22
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body23
join in honoring the life and memory of Herman Lee Riley and express their deepest and24
most sincere regret at his passing.25
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed26
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of27
Herman Lee Riley.28
