1616 Commending small businesses and recognizing March 5, 2024, as Women Owned Business

1818 Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.2
1919 WHEREAS, the month of March is Women's History Month; and3
2020 WHEREAS, Georgia is one of the states with the largest growth in number of women-owned4
2121 firms, and it ranks second in the nation for the growth of women-owned businesses; and5
2222 WHEREAS, women of every race, ethnic background, and socioeconomic class have made6
2323 significant contributions to the growth and strength of Georgia's economy, social7
2424 advancement, and global community; and8
2525 WHEREAS, despite their advancements and the fast-growing number of women business9
2626 owners in Georgia, they still lag significantly behind men in access to capital and the10
2727 generation of new revenue; and11
2828 WHEREAS, small business owners and entrepreneurs are integral to the prosperity and12
2929 resilience of our communities, and entrepreneurship remains a powerful way for women to13
3030 propel themselves along the path to economic prosperity and advancement; and14

3333 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia values community businesses and seeks to recognize the

3535 role of entrepreneurs and women-owned businesses and their unique challenges; and16
3636 WHEREAS, it is important to recognize organizations like The Women's Entrepreneurial17
3737 Opportunity Project Inc. (WEOP) for playing a vital role in empowering women, building18
3838 a network of stakeholders, and providing the community with initiatives that support19
3939 business growth and expansion; and20
4040 WHEREAS, Women's History Month is an opportunity for us to recognize and salute the21
4141 achievements and contributions of women to the economy and community.22
4242 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that23
4343 the members of this body recognize March 5, 2024, as Women Owned Business Day at the24
4444 state capitol to support the work of WEOP and observe, celebrate, and commend small25
4545 businesses for creating jobs, boosting the local economy, and invigorating neighborhoods26
4646 nationally.27
4747 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized28
4848 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the29
4949 public and the press.30
