A RESOLUTION
Congratulating the North Oconee High School boys basketball team for winning the 2024
1
GHSA Class 4A State Basketball Championship; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, the North Oconee High School boys basketball team has established and3
maintained a proud tradition of excellence with equal emphases on character and academics;4
and5
WHEREAS, this team has completed another triumphant season of basketball competition6
by posting an outstanding record of 30 wins and only three losses; and7
WHEREAS, excellent play, superior teamwork, and extraordinary resilience made this team8
a spectacular one to observe throughout the season, and as a fitting finale to its remarkable9
2024 campaign, the team captured its first state basketball championship winning the10
Georgia High School Association Class AAAA State Championship; and11
WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding12
athletic ability, dedication, hard work, and unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the13
team; its superb offensive and defensive talents; and the astute direction of Head Coach Rick14
Rasmussen; and15

WHEREAS, this all-star team included five seniors: Byrd Carter, Evan Montgomery, Justin
16
Payne, Shep Thompson, and Chase Scott; and17
WHEREAS, this team performed with precision during the season and earned its18
well-deserved reputation for high standards of athletic achievement, the quality of its play,19
and the stiff competition it presented to its opponents; and20
WHEREAS, as this amazing team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by21
performing with courage and skill over months of training and competition, it is abundantly22
proper to call them champions.23
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that24
the members of this body congratulate the North Oconee High School boys basketball team25
for winning the 2024 GHSA Class 4A State Basketball Championship and extend best26
wishes for their continued success.27
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives authorized28
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to North29
Oconee High School boys basketball team.30
