1717 A RESOLUTION
1818 Commending Hemophilia of Georgia; and for other purposes.

2020 WHEREAS, Hemophilia of Georgia is a nationally and internationally recognized nonprofit2
2121 based in Sandy Springs, Georgia, that provides services and support to Georgians who have3
2222 hemophilia, von Willebrand Disease, and other inherited bleeding disorders; and4
2323 WHEREAS, Hemophilia of Georgia serves as a member of the World Federation of5
2424 Hemophilia and is dedicated to enhancing the health and wellness of the bleeding disorder6
2525 community by providing comprehensive health care, education, advocacy, and the support7
2626 of research; and8
2727 WHEREAS, Hemophilia of Georgia is one of only two entities to receive six-star status by9
2828 the National Hemophilia Foundation on top of being recognized as a Chapter of Excellence;10
2929 and11
3030 WHEREAS, Hemophilia of Georgia initiated its work in 1973 so those affected by bleeding12
3131 disorders can live as normally and productively as possible; and13 23 LC 126 0013

3434 WHEREAS, Hemophilia of Georgia employs a number of professionals, including

3636 pharmacists, nurses, and social workers, to provide critical services to its clients; and15
3737 WHEREAS, Hemophilia of Georgia is the only organization of its type in the state offering16
3838 specialized pharmacy services, outreach nursing services, social support services, clinic and17
3939 research funding, information, educational services, and activities and programs to enhance18
4040 care and quality of life for people with bleeding disorders and their families; and19
4141 WHEREAS, Hemophilia of Georgia operates specialty pharmacies that have received dual20
4242 accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Health Care, Incorporated (ACHC) and21
4343 the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission, Incorporated (URAC), demonstrating a22
4444 commitment to high-quality standards of care; and23
4545 WHEREAS, Hemophilia of Georgia provides children with inherited bleeding disorders the24
4646 ability to live more normal lives, including opportunities to attend summer camp at Camp25
4747 Wannaklot; and26
4848 WHEREAS, Hemophilia of Georgia also publishes an award-winning newsletter for clients27
4949 and their families to keep up-to-date with advances on treatment; produces protocols for the28
5050 treatment of hemophilia and von Willebrand disease for physicians and other health care29
5151 providers; offers financial support for hemophilia treatment centers throughout Georgia to30
5252 ensure that they are fully staffed and equipped; and invests in critical research for inherited31
5353 bleeding disorders and their associated complications; and32
5454 WHEREAS, Hemophilia of Georgia's representatives work with the state's Hemophilia33
5555 Advisory Board, serving as an advisor on the standards of care and treatment for individuals;34

5959 WHEREAS, Hemophilia of Georgia has provided more than $17 million in research funding

6161 projects in the last decade focused on developing the scientists and infrastructure needed to37
6262 find a cure; and38
6363 WHEREAS, Hemophilia of Georgia partners with and provides funding for many entities,39
6464 including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders40
6565 Center at Emory University, in order to find a cure for hemophilia; and41
6666 WHEREAS, Hemophilia of Georgia serves as a trusted resource to many health care42
6767 providers and insurers, providing each with training on bleeding disorders, including43
6868 appropriate care and treatment, and the organization is recognized nationally and44
6969 internationally for its work; and45
7070 WHEREAS, Hemophilia of Georgia celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023 and thus the46
7171 honor and distinction of serving the bleeding disorder community for 50 years.47
7272 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the48
7373 members of this body extend a warm greeting to Hemophilia of Georgia, its staff and49
7474 volunteers, and the individuals that the organization serves and convey to them this50
7575 legislative body's heartiest commendation for their work on behalf of those individuals with51
7676 hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders in this state, throughout our nation, and52
7777 around the world.53
7878 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized54
7979 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to55
8080 Hemophilia of Georgia.56
