A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 12-18, 2023, as AmeriCorps Week Georgia; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, service is a hallmark of the American character and has the unique ability to2
bring people of all backgrounds together in common cause, and throughout our history,3
citizens have stepped up to meet our most pressing challenges of the day by volunteering in4
their communities; and5
WHEREAS, AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors programs provide opportunities for6
Americans to serve their country through service at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and7
community and faith-based groups across the country; and8
WHEREAS, at this moment, there are 250,000 people serving as members or volunteers in9
more than 40,000 locations across all 50 states and territories; and10
WHEREAS, in Georgia, more than 1,650 AmeriCorps members, AmeriCorps Seniors, and11
volunteers of diverse ages and backgrounds helped to meet local needs at more than 2112
service locations across the State of Georgia by responding to COVID-19, tutoring or13
mentoring children and youth, supporting veterans and military families, combating the14
opioid epidemic, restoring the environment, and responding to disasters; and15 23 LC 112 1500

WHEREAS, Georgia SERVES (Georgia Commission for Service and Volunteerism) is the
16
administrative agency for funds from the AmeriCorp/Corporation for National Community17
Service, and Georgia SERVES along with AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors18
volunteers encourage collaboration and partnerships, leveraging millions of volunteers in19
service and acquiring the support of business, foundation, and other local partners to increase20
the effectiveness of their initiatives; and21
WHEREAS, AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors programs bring people together across22
race, age, and zip code to address critical issues facing the country, forge relationships and23
cultivate mutual respect, and help build resilient and thriving communities; and24
WHEREAS, AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers demonstrate their25
dedication and patriotism by making an intensive commitment to service that remains with26
them in their future endeavors; and27
WHEREAS, through their service, AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors28
volunteers strengthen the lives of their families, communities, and the State of Georgia as a29
whole; and30
WHEREAS, national service represents a unique public-private partnership that invests in31
community solutions and leverages non-federal resources to strengthen community impact32
and increase the return on taxpayer dollars; and33
WHEREAS, AmeriCorps Week is an opportunity to recognize the dedication and34
commitment of the more than 1.2 million Americans who have chosen to serve their country35
through AmeriCorps as well as the millions more who have served in AmeriCorps Seniors36 23 LC 112 1500

and their community partners, encouraging more Americans to follow their footsteps in

service.38
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that39
the members of this body recognize March 12-18, 2023, as AmeriCorps Week Georgia and40
urge citizens to thank AmeriCorps members and alumni and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers41
for their service and to find their own ways to give back to their communities.42
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized43
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the44
public and the press.45
