16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Judge Willie J. Lovett, Jr., has long been recognized by the citizens of this state3 |

17 | 17 | | for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the4 |

18 | 18 | | welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and5 |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Judge Lovett graduated cum laude with distinction from Yale University with6 |
---|
20 | 20 | | a bachelor's degree in sociology, where he received the 1985 Roosevelt Thompson Prize for7 |
---|
21 | 21 | | his commitment to public service, served as president of the African American Black8 |
---|
22 | 22 | | Cultural Club, and was a member of the football team, Scroll and Key Society, and Alpha9 |
---|
23 | 23 | | Phi Alpha Fraternity, Zeta Chapter; and10 |

24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, in 1988, Judge Lovett earned his law degree from Harvard Law School, where11 |

25 | 25 | | he served as a comments editor on the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review, and12 |

26 | 26 | | in 1991 he earned a Master of Laws in litigation from Emory Law School; and13 |

27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Judge Lovett clerked for the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, served as an14 |

38 | 38 | | Counsel for Children and president, member of the executive board, member of the judicial22 |

39 | 39 | | section of the Gate City Bar Association; and23 |

40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, he served as chairman of the board for the Gate City Bar Foundation and24 |

41 | 41 | | volunteered his time to mentor young attorneys on the practice of law; and25 |

42 | 42 | | WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished26 |

43 | 43 | | Georgian be appropriately recognized by dedicating an intersection in his memory.27 |

44 | 44 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL28 |

45 | 45 | | ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of State Route 204 at Eisenhower Drive29 |

46 | 46 | | in Chatham County is dedicated as the Judge Willie Lovett Jr. Intersection.30 |

47 | 47 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and31 |
