A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 23, 2023, as Widow's and Widower's Day at the Capitol; and for other

purposes.2
WHEREAS, Life After the Rain (LATR) is an organization of widows and widowers3
committed to helping one another regain their quality of life and recover from the heartbreak4
and tragedy of losing their spouses; and5
WHEREAS, LATR began on May 21, 2016, at an inaugural breakfast sponsored by TGI6
Friday's wherein attendees were asked to bring a picture of their spouse and share precious7
memories; and8
WHEREAS, this gathering continued annually for four consecutive years until the9
COVID-19 pandemic, leading the organization to plan a Christmas Drive By and a 3K Walk10
in Honor of International Widows Day; and11
WHEREAS, the walk was held at the Clayton County International Park in partnership with12
the Clayton County Commission and Commissioner DeMont Davis, giving its over 5013
attendees the opportunity to seek community support and love; and14 23 LC 112 1582

WHEREAS, in 2019, 17 individuals from this group in partnership with Shenita

Scott-Connally participated in a book collaboration called Abiding Love, where each widow16
and widower were given an opportunity to share a snippet of their story in a dedicated17
chapter; and18
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this outstanding organization be properly19
honored for its many wonderful years of service.20
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that21
the members of this body recognize March 23, 2023, as Widow's and Widower's Day at the22
Capitol in honor of the remarkable work done by Life After the Rain and extend sincere best23
wishes for the organization's continued success.24
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized25
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Life26
After the Rain.27
