| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, a long-time member of the grassroots organization Disabled in Action (DIA),2 |

| 12 | 12 | | Calvin Peterson has been involved in disability advocacy for more than 40 years and has3 |

| 13 | 13 | | been a leader in the fight for disability rights in New York City and beyond; and4 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, he has served DIA in various leadership positions and has been a strong5 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | advocate for accessible public transportation, housing, and health care for people with6 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | disabilities; and7 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, in addition to his work with DIA, he has further served as a representative to8 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the United Nations as well as a member of the New York State Independent Living Council,9 |

| 19 | 19 | | a board member of the National Council on Independent Living, and a co-founder of the10 |

| 20 | 20 | | Coalition of Disabled Musicians; and11 |

| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, he has been recognized for his advocacy work with numerous awards, including12 |

| 22 | 22 | | the Disability Rights and Independent Living Movement Award from the National Council13 |

| 23 | 23 | | on Independent Living and the Justin Dart Award from the American Association of People14 |
