1717 A RESOLUTION
1818 Remembering Muhammad Ali; and for other purposes.

2020 WHEREAS, Muhammad Ali, through his unrelenting spirit to dream, bravery, humility, and2
2121 inspiring work ethic, committed himself to his passion for boxing and became, after winning3
2222 the heavy weight title three times, an Olympic gold medal, and a total of 56 matches during4
2323 his 21-year professional career, the "Greatest Boxer of All Time"; and5
2424 WHEREAS, Mr. Ali was a dedicated philanthropist who helped battle hunger around the6
2525 world, worked with the Special Olympics and the Make A Wish Foundation, and vocalized7
2626 support for Parkinson's disease research; and8
2727 WHEREAS, Mr. Ali devoted himself to service and faith and brought honor to our nation9
2828 by relying on the courage he found in his faith to stand up against injustice; and10
2929 WHEREAS, Mr. Ali, through his faith and love, committed himself to uniting our nation;11

3333 WHEREAS, Mr. Ali's dedication and perseverance continued throughout his life, even after

3535 he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease; and14
3636 WHEREAS, Mr. Ali has a special connection with the city of Atlanta, where he not only lit15
3737 the cauldron at the 1996 Olympic Games but also, 26 years earlier, staged his comeback to16
3838 the ring in the old Atlanta Municipal Auditorium against Jerry Quarry; and17
3939 WHEREAS, Mr. Ali is a source of inspiration for Georgia, the United States of America, and18
4040 the entire world; and19
4141 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this body appropriately honor the life of20
4242 Muhammad Ali by remembering Muhammad Ali and by encouraging Georgians to21
4343 remember his legacy and derive inspiration from the six core principles that fueled his22
4444 journey: confidence, conviction, dedication, giving, respect, and spirituality.23
4545 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that24
4646 the members of this body:25
4747 (1) Honor and remember the life of Muhammad Ali in 2024; and26
4848 (2) Encourage all citizens of Georgia to participate in programs, displays, and activities27
4949 in 2024 that pay tribute to the legacy of Muhammad Ali and derive inspiration from his28
5050 incredible life and the six core principals that fueled his journey: confidence, conviction,29
5151 dedication, giving, respect, and spirituality.30
5252 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31
5353 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the32
5454 public and the press.33
