1616 Recognizing and commending the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation; and for other

1919 WHEREAS, seventy-five years ago, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation captured a3
2020 remarkable act of collective hope that all children, adults, and senior citizens have clear4
2121 vision to achieve their best educational, social, and work potential; and5
2222 WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation was the dream of a blind man,6
2323 Atlanta Lions Club member Tom Bingham. In 1949, the Atlanta Lions Club, led by7
2424 Bingham, along with the Moultrie and Albany Lions Clubs, each contributed $1,000.00, and8
2525 the Lighthouse was born; and9
2626 WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, in partnership with Lions Clubs10
2727 throughout the State of Georgia, believes that all Georgians should have equal access to11
2828 vision care; and12
2929 WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation consistently ranks among the top13
3030 Georgia nonprofit organizations that impact the lives of Georgians, is one of the most14
3131 comprehensive state-wide nonprofit vision services provider organizations in Georgia, and15

3434 is the trusted leader in providing improved sight to Georgians who are uninsured and

3636 underinsured; and17
3737 WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation delivers vision services through a18
3838 full-service optical clinic, glasses recycling, mobile clinics, surgery coordination, a19
3939 state-wide school vision screening initiative, and a state-wide advanced technology20
4040 tele-optometry program to address the unmet vision needs of uninsured and underinsured21
4141 Georgians; and22
4242 WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation is transforming vision care in23
4343 Georgia by providing vision services to 52 rural Georgia counties that lack access to vision24
4444 professionals; and25
4545 WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation has established itself as the leader26
4646 in Georgia, and it is only fitting and proper that it be recognized for its efforts and27
4747 contributions to ensure that all Georgians, young and old, have clear vision allowing them28
4848 to have better quality and productive lives.29
4949 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that30
5050 the members of this body recognize and commend the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation31
5151 for its diligent service and encourage all businesses and community members to both support32
5252 and take advantage of the resources available from the Georgia Lions Lighthouse33
5353 Foundation.34
5454 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized35
5555 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the36
5656 Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation.37
