16	16	Recognizing and commending the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation; and for other

18	18	purposes.2
19	19	WHEREAS, seventy-five years ago, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation captured a3
20	20	remarkable act of collective hope that all children, adults, and senior citizens have clear4
21	21	vision to achieve their best educational, social, and work potential; and5
22	22	WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation was the dream of a blind man,6
23	23	Atlanta Lions Club member Tom Bingham. In 1949, the Atlanta Lions Club, led by7
24	24	Bingham, along with the Moultrie and Albany Lions Clubs, each contributed $1,000.00, and8
25	25	the Lighthouse was born; and9
26	26	WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, in partnership with Lions Clubs10
27	27	throughout the State of Georgia, believes that all Georgians should have equal access to11
28	28	vision care; and12
29	29	WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation consistently ranks among the top13
30	30	Georgia nonprofit organizations that impact the lives of Georgians, is one of the most14
31	31	comprehensive state-wide nonprofit vision services provider organizations in Georgia, and15

34	34	is the trusted leader in providing improved sight to Georgians who are uninsured and
35	35	16
36	36	underinsured; and17
37	37	WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation delivers vision services through a18
38	38	full-service optical clinic, glasses recycling, mobile clinics, surgery coordination, a19
39	39	state-wide school vision screening initiative, and a state-wide advanced technology20
40	40	tele-optometry program to address the unmet vision needs of uninsured and underinsured21
41	41	Georgians; and22
42	42	WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation is transforming vision care in23
43	43	Georgia by providing vision services to 52 rural Georgia counties that lack access to vision24
44	44	professionals; and25
45	45	WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation has established itself as the leader26
46	46	in Georgia, and it is only fitting and proper that it be recognized for its efforts and27
47	47	contributions to ensure that all Georgians, young and old, have clear vision allowing them28
48	48	to have better quality and productive lives.29
49	49	NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that30
50	50	the members of this body recognize and commend the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation31
51	51	for its diligent service and encourage all businesses and community members to both support32
52	52	and take advantage of the resources available from the Georgia Lions Lighthouse33
53	53	Foundation.34
54	54	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized35
55	55	and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the36
56	56	Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation.37
