A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the accomplishments of the Honorable Colonel Dr. Samuel

Verniero through his life's work and his Verniero Commission; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, the Honorable Colonel Dr. Samuel Verniero is battling the rare terminal blood3
cancer myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) in the form of polycythemia vera (PCV); and4
WHEREAS, the Honorable Colonel Dr. Samuel Verniero remains persistent in his pursuit5
to make the world a better place despite his illness; and6
WHEREAS, he serves as deputy high commissioner for the United Nations World Humanity7
Commission, as foreign affairs ambassador, as appellate judge for the Selective Service8
System, and as a councilman for both the Georgia State Rehabilitation Council and Statewide9
Independent Living Council of Georgia; in addition to the many hats he wears, he finances10
a staff to forge new connections, research issues, and write legislation; and11
WHEREAS, Colonel Samuel Verniero has made it his mission to spread awareness of MPN12
cancers and create legislation to protect our elderly, disabled, and vulnerable populations.13 23 LC 127 0293

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body

commend the Honorable Colonel Dr. Samuel Verniero for his countless efforts to make not15
only the State of Georgia a better place but also the world as a whole.16
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body recognize and appreciate the17
Honorable Colonel Dr. Samuel Verniero's life achievements as they reflect that of a model18
Georgian. 19
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed20
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Honorable21
Colonel Dr. Samuel Verniero.22
